Sungrow and SUNOTEC Expand in Bulgaria with 2.4 GWh Battery Storage Agreement

On 27 July, Chinese company Sungrow, a leading global supplier of solar inverters and battery energy storage systems (BESS), announced a strategic agreement with SUNOTEC, a provider of solar power solutions active in Bulgaria and Germany. The deal involves delivering 2.4 gigawatt-hours of energy storage capacity for projects in Bulgaria and across Europe.

The initiative is closely tied to Bulgaria’s RESTORE program (National Infrastructure for Storage of Electricity from Renewable Sources), which is financed by the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience plan. The program provides €670 million (1.15 billion BGN) in funding to boost battery storage installations in Bulgaria, with the goal of reaching 10,000 MWh of storage capacity in the near future.

In April 2025, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Energy selected 82 projects out of 151 applications under the RESTORE scheme, representing a total of 10 GWh of storage capacity. Earlier this year, the country also inaugurated a 500 MWh storage facility in Lovech, the largest of its kind in the EU so far.

Sungrow will deliver its advanced PowerTitan 2.0 liquid-cooled battery system, which integrates a 2.5 MW power conversion unit with 5 MWh of storage in a standard 20-foot container. This modular design offers flexibility, high energy density, and reduced installation costs. Sungrow will also supply inverters and medium-voltage solutions for selected hybrid projects.

SUNOTEC, with offices in Sofia and Munich, is expanding its portfolio rapidly. In 2024, the company inaugurated the Selanovtsi Hybrid Power Plant, combining 60 MW of solar with 107 MWh of storage, and acquired a 400 MW / 600 MWh project in Latvia. It is also a founding partner of the Battery Storage Europe Platform, a SolarPower Europe initiative to strengthen energy storage adoption across the EU.

The partnership between Sungrow and SUNOTEC demonstrates how battery storage is becoming central to Europe’s renewable energy transition, helping to stabilize grids, maximize solar self-consumption, and secure energy independence.
